Last night Ege and I were reading scriptures and came across a scripture that really hit us hard and I feel impressed to share it with the ones I love and share how I feel about it.
Doctrine & Covenants 38:39
"And if ye seek the riches which it is the will of the Father to give unto you, ye shall be the richest of all people, for ye shall have the riches of eternity; and it must needs be that the riches of the earth are mine to give; but beware of pride, lest ye become as the Nephites of old."
"Riches of eternity," what a powerful phrase that is. To me that is blessings (riches) from living the gospel. "Riches of the earth" I think of as more temporal blessings given in this life. I know of so many people that are struggling financially right now, me included. Some have had harder lessons to learn than others during these economic trials, but we all have the same feeling of stress on our shoulders.
I see these times as Heavenly Father giving us a "cleanse," as my mom has shared with me a few months ago. I truly believe that. He is giving us this opportunity to stop and reflect our lives, the choices we are making and what we are making our priority. I know that I have and let me tell you what is important to me...
The Gospel, plain and simple. Reading scriptures and conversing with the Lord daily, going to the Temple on a regular basis, paying tithing, attending church meetings, visiting teaching, holding the church calling I have and doing it the best I can. Am I good at all of these things?? No, they are always a work in progress.
As we seek and live those "riches" of the gospel we will receive those riches of the earth in a way that the Lord has planned.
Let us not become as the Nephites of old. Stay strong. Keep positive. Have faith and hope. Be grateful. You will see that light at the end of the tunnel. Promise.
